Use body language to show you're listening. Don’t doodle, look at your watch, or pick at your nails. Nod so the other person knows you're getting the message, and rephrase if you need to. For instance, say, "What I hear you saying is that you feel as though you have more chores at home, even though we're both working." If you're right, the other can confirm. If what the other person really meant was, "Hey, you're a slob and you create more work for me by having to pick up after you," he or she can say so, but in a nicer way.

I have this guy I’ve been dating off & on for the past 2years but we’ve been back seriously together for 8months now but suddenly few days back he just decide that he can’t go on with the relationship anymore that he feels the relationship lack trust meanwhile I’ve been 100% honest & loyal to him and he’s not get in touch with me since the which I did not aswell buh he watched my whatsapp status evrytime Wich I don’t do to his…..I’m really hurt please what should I do I need your advice??

My boyfriend and I had an on and off relationship for three years. He says he s over me and he told me to get it in my head that we are never getting back together because we don’t work out. But I love him and think we could make it work. Is there a chance we could get back together? Even before when we broke up he always called or texted , this is the first time he has acted so cold towards me.
My ex and I broke up 4 days ago, we were together for 9 months. In The first month of our relationship I went on a cruise and my friend asked if we were still dating. She saw him making out with his ex gf at her party. I talked to the girl and she told me they even had sex and she had his necklace and earring and he even changed her name in his phone to a guys name. I read very inappropriate messages between the two. Saying, “he got a instant b*ner when she put her tongue down his throat at the party”. He admitted that she kissed him first and that’s all it was and nothing more. He said he never cheated on me meaning he never had sex with her and how he couldn’t do that and still be with me. So 8 months go by and the majority of our relationship we spent time watching tv, playing video games, going to a few parties, but not really going out and doing actual couple things. Back to it being 4 days since we broke up, he initiated the break up because I found tinder on his phone, but it was also mutual because at times he didn’t treat me right and I constantly saw him messaging other girls not necessarily cheating and then he made a tinder account two days before we broke up because he said it was because of the possibility of us breaking up. Three days go by and he texted me at like 12:30 am saying, “you been doing okay”, but I didn’t respond and an hour later ““ the thumbs emoji because I didn’t respond. But this whole time we’ve been broken up he’s been going out to the bars staying out late at night with his friends even staying at the place he’s at till the morning. But the worst part is his friends are a major problem, was a problem in our relationship, they … mainly one friend encourages him to go out and get drunk. Maybe that’s his way of not feeling the pain and distracting himself for reality but I wish he would just grow up and mature and not always choose his friends and having to always say okay to what they want to do. If he were to say no he would get manipulated and they would beg him to come out. The last thing I said to him was I hope he takes this time to work on himself and not being in a relationship. He said he agrees and it’s time for him to be by himself and not in a relationship. For his sake I hope this is true. It seems like he goes from relationships to relationships. … Him texting me that is just throwing me off. I need some advice.
So I m a gay guy who is in love with of course another guy. we were doing so good and things happened and then he broke up with me. no, he never did ask for space. he told me that he had fallen for someone else and he was happy. ofcouse I chased him around begging to take me back and reminded him of how much I love him. oh and he lived in a different country, we met on social media. I flew over to see him. since then I have flown multiple times to see him because he asked me to go see him. he says he doesn’t want to loose me but does not seem to want to talk to me. when I call him. he does not pick up. sometime he talks to me. but most of the time. I believe he just ignores me. I don’t know what to do….. the sad part is I am madly in love with him… do I just not contact him at all? why does ppl that actually love gets hurt all the time. I don’t think I have ever been treated special by any of my partner except for him. he was so sweet to me. I guess the distance got the best of us. but is it really over? I don’t understand it. and I am sorry, if I am offending other readers. I have no where to go or talk to but to ask for help here. thank you for reading.
How you feel with the person you’re with is the best indication of whether you’re with someone who’s compatible or not. How much you want it to work is the worst indicator of a good relationship (in fact, usually the people who tell me how desperately they want something to work are highlighting how incompatible they really are from their partner).

It is possible that he is busy, especially if his business is very important to him. If you want to spend more time with him, then share your feelings with him directly and honestly. It is certain that he will attempt to spend more time with you if he is able. If he is not able, but you need to be around him more, then be sure to let him know that you are having concerns about the lack of time that you spend together. Whatever you do, continue to remain positive and mindful as you move forward. Best of luck, Tarryn!
We went to America on holiday a week ago and next week he starts his last year of uni.on Tuesday he broke up with me , he said he did want to still have me in his life but needed space as his head isn’t in the right place. We texted a bit but I could tell his mum was controlling it and he asked for space again … I’m meant to help him move into uni and he hasn’t said no to it but he hasn’t messaged me at all since for a whole day, do I just give the space and hope he doesn’t forget about me ? We did so much together we where like two peas in a pod as load of people told us. He’s kept his profile pic and lots of his stuff at mine. Is there still a chance? Was it his mum’s doing of the break up and he will he change when he’s out of the house at uni ? I need help because we love each other and he did say but I’m worried he’s lying or his mum is inflicting this. I just want to text him to remind him I’m here but I’m not sure what to do. Please give some advice
Now, what’s happening in your body when you picture a man pulling away and going further off into the distance? Can you FEEL your body wanting to lean forward and doing anything you can to stop him from going away? This “leaning forward” urgency is what causes a man to feel pressured and cornered. That’s why you need to STOP it by doing the opposite: leaning BACK.

Two months ago I met a man. We were so attracted to each other that it all happened so fast, on the first date. He warned me that he didn’t want a relationship… I did my best to listen to his feelings, show understanding and get some intimacy and we eventually got close and started meeting every week. I was sleeping over at his house, we were having good time, having sex, doing normal things like cooking and spending the whole weekend together. I knew he had a very problematic past – a father who never married his mother or took any responsibility, a brother from another mother who caused him problems, personal problems with drugs in the past and two broken relationships with 1) bulimic anorexic girl and 2) a girl who cheated on him 10 months ago. I was so good to listen, give him the peace he needed and be very patient with him.
Why men pull away is a mystery to women, especially younger women who are trying to make their man to commit, everything is going perfectly fine, and all of sudden their boyfriend starts acting distant. If you find yourself in a similar situation, you may be having unlimited questions about what the exact reason is why he is acting distant and cold. You may be thinking if you did something wrong. This can make you feel hurt, angry, and confused. There could be various reasons why your boyfriend or husband is acting distant and withdrawing from you. Maybe your boyfriend does not want a long-term relationship with you, or maybe your husband is having issues at his work place and he is trying to find a solution. Maybe none of these reasons are true and there is no spark left in your relationship and it’s time to move on.
"Not all guys are outright about their interest, but there are certain signs you can definitely look for. If you've developed an inside joke, that's for sure a good thing. How polite is he being? Is he buying drinks? Offering his seat? Walking you home/to the train? Is he staying out way later than he should? Generally trying to make sure you're enjoying yourself? Is it super easy to convince him to get one more round when he has to wake up for work at seven? He might be miserable the next day...but he probably won't mind." Brady O.
Hi, I was dating a guy for only two months. We had the most amazing time together and a great connection. On date 6 we confided in each other about our traumatic pasts. We had incredibly amazing intimacy and fantastic dates. By date #8 I could tell that he was starting to fall for me. On date #9 he freaked out and told me that he had absolutely no concerns regarding our relationship and that he had no doubt about our connection and that if we continued to see each other we would have a wonderful relationship. The fear that he was having is that I have a 5 year old son. I’m 33, he’s 31 and an attorney. He wants children, but said he is not ready to have a child in his life. I was not pushing anything and he was putting pressure onto himself. I told him that I was trying to focus on the present and that I was not ready for him to be a part of that either. I just wanted things to progress naturally. He had not even met my son. He ended things after our last date without giving us a chance. We are not in contact and it’s been a week. Is there any hope for this situation?
Men like to take lead and solve problems. They like to keep their personal problems with themselves and try to find a solution. If your boyfriend is acting distant, he may be having a personal problem and trying to find a solution on his own. Once he solves the problem, he will come back to you. There is nothing to worry about because he is not running away from you. It would be wise to give him some space and let him figure out what to do next. It is strongly advised to avoid putting pressure on him for spending time with you. This can make things worse and push him away from you because if you keep putting pressure on him, he might feel like you are self-involved and don’t realize that he may be having some personal issues. When the time is right and everything gets back to normal, he might tell you the reason why he was acting distant.
Once you’ve rocked his world, don’t say, “OK, I rocked you, now pay me back with your lifelong commitment.” That won’t work. Show him that he must earn that privilege. And keep earning it. I’m not talking about berating, withholding or any other mind-f*ck thing we all despise. (Not sure what I mean? Find out why “you go girl” thinking is the worst advice.)
Hello .. my ex and I broke up about 5 days ago . We were in a long-distance relationship for about 4 months . Everything went well and we managed to see each other a couple of time despite the distance . Everything went ok and then one day everything changed, he became closed and distance from me , he had troubles with his studies (and felt confused about his future and studies), because of the distance things became harder , I felt that I want be there for him in this difficult time but can’t ,because he is distancing from me -and I can’t be there for someone that don’t allow me to do it . Each day I became more and more cold and distance from me ,until I talk to him about it and he told me that he can’t deal with everything right now ,and he need me right now next to him in live and not through the phone . 4 days ago I spoke with him and told him that I love him a lot and want to be with and through this hard times and wish there was a way to help him , and that I understand that he need time alone to think about everything , and that it doesn’t mean I give up on him . He respond me in a cold way “thank you,I appreciate it “ no I love you ,no affection nothing . And then I offered him maybe to come visit me , I thought that was a good idea ,but he refused and said he can’t and he can’t continue togheter , the distance is to difficult for him especially now-when he needs his girlfriend by it side . The last message from him was:that it’s hard for him this break up and he feels it’s too soon and it’s not supposed to and now and like that and that I’m very important and meaningful for him , but the only thing that comfort him, is that we have so unique connection that he is sure we will have another opportunity to be togheter when the time is right . My question is what should I do ? I feel like it was a mistake that we break up , and maybe I should have stay in contact with him ?
I dayed someone long distance for 7 month…most amazing man I’ve met and treated me so well but the communication was not the greatest when he was around friends and family and I was non existent to his social media and have not met anyone significant to him and he would not commit to a relationship. To cut the long story short I recently ended things because of the lack of effort and commitment after 7 months which breaks my heart because I truly loved him. I’m going to try this process and see if he decides to commit I just hope I did the right thing leaving him because we never had one any issues. Ugh any advice am I doing the right thing???
What women are really looking for during the first several dates is if she feels an emotional connection with you. Having meaningful conversations show that you’re truly interested in who she is as a person rather than just wanting to get her into bed. Show her right off the bat that you’re genuinely interested in getting to know her by sharing something about yourself. You will signal to her that you’re willing to be open with her, which allows her the opportunity to let her guard down and reciprocate. Find out if you have any shared interests and values and don’t forget to be a gentlemen on your date by treating her with respect.

And so we continue being sweet again. Slowly he texts me less and less. And then texts a lot again and less again.

Hey Kelly, pretty much the same here.. I was in a relationship for almost 2 years, I moved in with him after a few months because everything was going great and he wanted to spend more time together. I was aware he was OCD, and he was aware that I was not a neat person. I live in clutter. My parents live in the country so we didn’t have anyplace to dispose of unwanted items/clothes or garbage. (We burn our garbage) anyway that’s how my life was, and it became a habit to be cluttery. I had More things than I needed, I never got rid of anything old. And I have issues with my own family where nobody talks to anybody. I was extremely close to my parents because we never had anybody else. Anyway, I told my boyfriend before I moved in that I was messy and made him promise not to ever give up on me, to be patient and to motivate me because I’m not self motivated unless it comes to work. At home I’m lazy and relax, I am not active. Lately he’s been dealing with a lot of stress, massive amounts of overtime for the past couple months and his parents left to live in a state 5 states away from us down south. Communication with them has become harder because of Hurricanes & their busy schedules. So as a result he became depressed. Our only friend and neighbor we hungout with slowly became depressed too, and she stopped hanging out with us. Our world got smaller, just me & him. And he stopped doing ANYTHING pretty much. He was sleeping a lot and I can’t recall before our breakup any time we spent together (aside from going to a wedding & to get a friend of his who stayed for a week.) AND WE LIVED IN THE SAME HOUSE. I feel his depression was a result of his own actions, he stopped doing things he use to. And me not having a job made me cling to every second we spent together. Just everything came crashing down on us. I feel we didn’t fail each other like he thinks, because we are both different. But rather I feel we just were going through a rough patch that happens with couples. The honeymoon wore off. We had to put effort in now because things were depressing and not easy. And he thought it was underlining issues so he no longer wanted to work things out. I hope you two fixed things. How are you?
Sound familiar? If yes, then you need to stop interrupting him and start listening. We all aren’t always in the mood for listening someone, and find our stories more interesting. However, what he tells you about childhood, work, friends and coworkers speaks a lot about him. You can easily conclude who he is deep within. Instead of interrupting and talking about yourself you can ask him if he would like to have a dog in the future.
One of the reasons he liked the initial date was because he thought you were mysterious. You didn’t talk as much back then. He had to entertain you, he had to work hard to get you to open up to him. The fact remains that men love mystery! They love it when women give them a little and make them work for more. When you volunteer information constantly, men don’t place as much value in that information. When you avoid giving details and keep things as vague as possible it challenges him.
Without literally telling him verbally, give your man a few good reasons why he shhould commit. Ensure that you are the type of woman that he wants before you think about a committment. Evaluate the relationship and see if you are both happy and willing to take it a few steps further. Be what he wants without forcing yourself to; be his happy place, his pillar of support. Contrary to what many people think, being able to wash, cook and clean are not the basic foundations of what makes a man happy and lean towards commitment. If you are seen as a great companion who he has to lean on at the end of his day, forcing him to commit will never be an option.
Then one friday night on a party im so drunk and we go together at his place and we had an intercourse. Its not planned at all. But i think it’s the right time even though we dont define our relationship i feel comfortable with him so i feel ok. He never pressured me to have sex i just feel comfortable around him.. i think after that we are still ok, he still text me.
“Men are so used to being pursued when they’re trying to gain perspective that he’s going to be shocked you’re giving him the space he wants. He’ll realize that you’re different from most other women he’s dated, in a good way” – Good doesn’t begin to cover it. I would be ecstatic and incredulous that my partner is actually willing to let me do what I need to do to be myself, with no ulterior motive.

If you really want your guy to finally commit to being in a relationship, you have to make commitment look like something that will be fun, light and carefree. No guy will agree to being in a relationship with a woman who is always sad, depressed and starting petty arguments with him. So every time the two of you hang out, make sure you’re doing something fun! A friendly bowling match, a round of miniature golf or checking out the latest movie are all fun date ideas that will keep your guy happy and with a smile on his face. Once he associates you with all things fun and easygoing, committing will no longer be something he dreads.
However, for women it is always nice when a guy does the romantic thing and buys you presents etc. So if you have been in a relationship with your man for a while and this is happening to you, then you can also use James Bauer’s questioning technique to get him to realise on another level that he needs to pay attention to you in a more romantic way.
He suddenly wanted a break, said i would get too jealous and needed space, I fought him so he said nvm I’m too aggressive. Then I kept messaging him and he said he was seriously going to give me a chance but that now that I freaked him out. I had never reacted this way w him but I really did not want to lose him. He used to love me so much and showed so much affection but it was so much that it kind of got to me and I loved him a lot for it, he eventually needed space because he went through alcohol problems in the past and needed to stay active in helping and running since he is sponsored. Eventually he told me no, he will not promise me he was taking a break anymore.

Hi, He sounds as if he has a lot of his own insecurities and is deflecting them onto you. He is constantly trying to change you, and tell you that you aren’t enough. You sound to me as if you are not comfortable in being yourself around him. You can’t petend to be someone else to please jom forever, so picture this you are trying to adapt yourself to who he wanrlts and he is still finding flaws. Aren’t you tired already,? he is damaging your self-esteem. There is someone out there , who you may or may not have met, that will adore you flaws and all, bit you have to love yourself enough to know when you are being tolerated , and ” handled”, not loved. This guy you are with, needs you a lot more than you need him, be careful not to allow him to force you to change into someone nobody wants, so thy he can keep you all to himself, while he used you. By that, I mean an insecure, unhappy person that doesn’t feel worthy of anything.
We’ve broken up once before about four months ago, it was different. But I guess I’ll admit overall the same thing. Except it was for TWO DAYS. and even within those two days we still talked slightly. I can’t tell you exactly what it was about. But long story short, I wasn’t being the more positive. I wasn’t treating him the way he should have been treated. I wasn’t treating him badly, but I wasn’t fully aware of everything he was doing for me. I was negative. Always complaining about my home life, friends, job, blahnlah. But very soon I realized how I was acting wasn’t going to get me or him anywhere for awhile. Then we talked. We were happy. We were together. He had planned to be with me the whole time. Just wanted me to realize some things. Boom. Happy.
We’ve been together for 7 months but I broke up with him 5 days ago, I did it before but I begged him to take me back instantly, this time I’m not gonna beg or talk to him because I know he took me for granted and I don’t want that. He didn’t even read my break up message yet.. how will I know if he misses me when he naturally doesn’t text very fast (which is the reason for our break up) and not on social media much + there is no contact between us??
Another ways to make my boyfriend miss me and want to see me is to do what he likes. Every guy has a thing that he really likes from his girlfriend. For instance, maybe he likes a certain way you dress or tie your hair. When you meet or see him, do those things that he really likes from you. When he remembers these little moments, he will miss you.
Do you have a source or study for this statistic? Anecdoctal evidence or observations shouldn't be cited as evidence by a psychology publication. I'm a nursing student and I've visited a nursing home. I found the proportion of male to female residents roughly equal. Perhaps, there are more women, because women live on average six to eight years longer than men. In addition, older men have a higher suicide rate. These factors could explain the higher numbers of women in some nursing homes. I find this statement sexist, and offensive to MEN. I believe that men have emotions and are capable of love and attachment, just like women. I also believe that most men have integrity, and strength of character. This is the exact sort of thing that encourages stereotype, hostiity between the genders, and anti-male discrimination. The professor you quoted is obviously unscientific and a misogynist. You should be ashamed of yourself for quoting him. I will be writing a complaint to psychology today, and starting a petition about this. Thanks.
#7 Withdraw if they seem too hesitant. Not much will make a guy commit faster than the fear of losing you if they don’t. However, you can’t give them an ultimatum. Just simply stop talking as much if he starts showing you he’s not ready to commit. This might scare him into realizing how much you really mean to him.
